Week 1 - Introduction to the class and course
Overview
Each week in this site is structured in a similar way: Following an overview, which may include or link to a lecture, there are reading and activity assignments. The Blackboard icon is an active link and will take you to your Blackboard log-in page.
Reading
Read the four documents listed under "Course Information" in the navigation menu.
Please Note: Most documents for this course are Google Docs that I have shared with UALR persons only. Thus, you must be logged into your UALR Google account to access them. If you have a personal Google account, log out of it and then log into UALR.
If you want to read ahead for next week, read chapters 1-3 in Thank You for Arguing. Here is a pdf of the first three chapters.
Activities
All activities are for both online and on-campus sections unless otherwise noted.
- In Blackboard, complete the syllabus quiz. Locate the quiz on the BB course menu. Be sure you have read the 4 documents under Course Information in Weebly. Complete by Sunday, January 27, 11:59 p.m.
- Complete a Personal History of Argument and share it as a Google Doc with me. The assignment is here and in the Weebly navigation menu. Complete by Sunday, January 27, 11:59 p.m. (online section) or by Monday, January 28, class time (on-campus section)
- Online section only: In Blackboard, participate in the Introduction Discussion (1.1). Start by Thursday, and complete by Sunday, January 27, 11:59 p.m.
We will be using Google Docs quite a bit this semester. The Personal History of Argument assignment will allow you to learn how to use Google Docs or will refresh your memory if you've used Google Docs before. Here is a guide to using Google Docs (It is also available on the technology page.)
